Katarina Witt started to ice skate at the age five. Soon, her talents began to emerge and she was accepted into Karl-Marx-Stadt's school for special needs. They got to know Jutta Muller here. Her breakthrough year was in 1982 when she finished second at the World Championships in Copenhagen. Since then, Witt's grace and beauty have captivated the interest of all. Olympic success Katarina (now Witt) was awarded the Figure Skating Gold Medal during the Sarajevo Winter Games. The winner of the competition was a more competitive race four years later. Witt actually fell short of the free skating competition, but won the gold medal upon her results in the mandatory figures as well as the short programme. Witt became the women's first repeatedly crowned winner of figure skating, following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt was able to return to skating after her success in the film industry as an actor. Witt competed at the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. While she was not able to get a medal, she delighted her fans despite coming in seventh. Witt was admitted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in the year 1995.
